Quintessential Design vs Creative Intelligence
. A sense of lightness is reiterated by the all-glass shower walls, floating benches, cantilevered sink, and mirrored bath.”
Creative Design ..always the intelligent option .

An Invigorating Green in a Tiled Guest Bath. New York, NY. “Emerald green tiles arranged in a bold, graphic grid transform the guest bath of our apartment at Lincoln Center into an exciting retreat. Soft wood cabinets floating above dark, contrasting floors provide another compelling counterpoint to the sedate skyline that is framed by the carefully placed mirror.”

Bath Renovation: This guest cottage bath was gutted, reconfigured, and rebuilt. The design mixes modern and vintage inspired elements to update, yet respect, this historic home. A new skylight over a repurposed tub bathes the space with natural light. New radiant heat tubing under modern Heath tile keeps the space warm

Design Surfaces With New Tile Textures and Forms. Technology has taken our movies, TV shows and printing into three dimensions, and now it’s taking tile there. Tile not only has taken on textures like damask, exotic patterns and prints, stacked stone especially the 3D collection from Marble Palace Design Center in Port Washington,New York . My favorite place to design kitchens, bathrooms , fireplaces and any wall or floor installation project. One of the great resources for all your tiles and natural stones…Porcelain, Marble and travertine in their new looks, shapes and forms. Tile has also become an integral part of architecture, with sculptural tiles adding new dimensions to walls. Tiles bump, undulated, weave, wave, crimp, crumple, create rhythms and draw our hands, which cannot resist touching them to check the feeling and mood of the designer.. as a jewelry designer since 1999, when I find Ornamental tile pieces like these..they become jewelry for walls.
Here are some of the most interesting innovations I work with currently ; Patterns with large-scale shapes. Separate tiles work together here, meeting at the corners to create new shapes; it’s like the wall was a large crumpled-up piece of paper that’s been somewhat smoothed out.
•Sculptural patterns. These patterns on wall tiles play with light and shadow and give the whole wall an artistic quality as well as depth
•Tiles with different levels and textures. As a designer working with the Architecture I always approach the tile installation in a new way. “The ugly joint used to be a problem; now the ugly joint becomes more than the advantage. It becomes a reason to” Think of the flat area between the shiny squares here as expanded joints”.
•Subtle patterns. Subtler patterns work well in a more minimalist room, whether cream tiles (these are from Viva) cover an entire wall or … … just form an interesting border or stripe.

•Small-scale 3-D tiles. Tiny tiles are in on the pattern game too; here the small tiles give the wall depth and interest in a mosaic pattern.

Subject: an Intriguing combination…Spring Mood Boards and Stacy Miles, Designer.
The purity of design and quality of finish are paramount, when designing any project.. Often the client will get an intriguing combination of styles – perhaps a Fifties lamp juxtaposed with an eighteenth-century chair. A marble floor mixed with mahogany wood plank floors .. Working with clients , some of them art collectors, allows me to create interior spaces where architecture and finishing complement the client’s collection . In addition to allow the art and design to work seamlessly with one another.
The big picture , designing with all materials including tiles and how to achieve continuity, select colors, choose the pattern and shapes of the tiles ( adding texture). Knowing the character of the space and adding little details with special effects like bull noses to v-caps and the aesthetics of grout. I am always thinking about special considerations; wet areas, showers and inside and in-between outside like an entry foyer. How it all comes together very important that when shopping get lead times, samples, variation in the product and pricing. Tile is low maintenance , durable and easy to clean. I have some great ways to introduce tile as a piece of artistry or featured focal wall in any space. Tiles on a wall in a dining room enhancing the space by installing a wall of glass mosaics in a pattern with an iridescent, reflective finish that will catch the light. By adding tile to the room, it will bring color, pattern and texture where it is lacking and complete the style and enhance the attributes that already exposed. Tiles can mimic the look of wallpaper or an exquisite fabric. I like to use tile in a subtle pattern , quiet shades of grey and bring in sophistication and a dose of the unexpected to any modern room. Tile- The way we live with color, and styles are endless combinations ; Industrial glamour, edgy classic , mid-century elegant, how to mix and match, where to start when designing a counter top ,back splash and floors ….

Quintessential Design Point of View from the Designer,” my goal is to always design above the bar”. I am newly committed to working with marble and other interesting tiles .

Quintessential Design View of Tiles
Designing with Tile..
Tiles bring color, pattern and texture to a space and enhance attributes
that already exist . Here are some of my recommendations to demystify the
varieties of trims, borders and achieve the greatest effect of the chosen
material. The details, design tools to compose a two-dimensional or three
dimensional space arranging tile in different configurations , understanding
the purpose of specialized trims. Bul nose, v-caps , listellos and
keys-tiles basically fall into three categories: field tile, accents and
trim pieces. One practical consideration: when mixing two or more types of
tile within the same plane, stick to tiles same thickness as the field tile.
Using accent pieces set into the field tile add variety and highlight the
color, finish and texture of the field tiles. Using trim pieces to smooth
over the transition from one tile to another material, along wainscoting ,
where floor meets walls, along edges etc.
A bullnose has rounded edges, used
as a highlight .a v-cap is v shaped tile that wraps around edges of counter
top. Base tiles use like a wood base board. When in doubt I hope you will
