What an interior designer does: As a designer I envision plans andoutfits spaces in a way that makes them both beautiful and functional.  I always balance aesthetic considerations with structural planning to reflect the clients’ lifestyle, set the desired mood, complement the home’s architectural features, and ensure that less glamorous details (like electrical outlets and air vents) fit into the scheme. interior design requires cultivating relationships with trusted artisans, vendors and others who execute my design…image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image

“What is New in Design 2014” Quintessential Trends by Stacy Miles,Designer.

What is “New “ in Design 2014:
By Stacy Miles
http://www.stacymiles-designer.com

Among all the tiles , fancy fixtures, faucets, plumbing, and furnishings that I have designed with in 2013 there are some noticeable trends evolving for 2014… As I filtered through all my projects, here are the three trends that stood out:

Top Kitchen & Bathroom Trends
1. DIGITAL. Though it always sounds a bit ridiculous at first, there is no denying that digital technology is changing this industry dramatically. Though high-end spa tubs that play music and remember your “ favorite tunes on the iPad” , temperature control and conservation settings will no doubt become more commonplace.

2. RETROFIT &RENOVATE. The kitchen and bathrooms industry is responding to the needs of the thousands of homeowners and urban renters who wish to upgrade their existing homes. These products make retrofit and renovation easier with standard sizing and smart solutions to make DIY even easier (if that’s the route you choose). As a designer I suggest always working with professionals !

3. TRANSITIONAL / CONTEMPORARY Nearly every manufacturer I spoke with talked about their newest designs that were destined to be in high-demand due to their strategic aesthetic that was a nod towards traditional but just modern enough to appeal to today’s consumers. While I personally prefer more modern and edgy design, mid-century modern collectible items, these new products make designing a room a that will appeal to any elegant classic home and to a wider range of consumers.

As the Designer ” I truly believe that any home renovation /remodel can be a success on a limited budget”.

By using my creative resourcefulness combined with my extensive formal design education , that includes all of my project experience inevitably lead to clever solutions and beautiful results.
When working with limited budget of roughly $80/per square foot and a compressed construction period of 120 days from the start of demolition to finish, as the designer and member of the remodel team of an architect, contractor, and electrician, I become the Design Director of the project. As I procure all the materials (everything except for the sheet rock). “Ordering everything myself saves money, as normally a contractor would add a fee on top of the cost for the materials, which includes being responsible for getting the right overage on the tiles and making sure everything arrived in the right sequence. “This usually is quite stressful, and I wouldn´t necessarily recommend trying this at home, DIY.”
As a designer, however, I do offer a client several user-friendly tips for staying on budget and on time. “Having done extensive research on all of my past projects, I am able to make final decisions on schedule, which is one of the most important aspects of any successful project. I always recommend that clients do their research by compiling and organizing their images or links to ideas, materials, and products in a thoughtful way; this is invaluable to you as well as working with a design team “Working within one’s budget is always challenging. As a designer, I am well aware of what´s available in terms of materials and fixtures and covet the same things I specify for my clients. The results are to always strike a balance between the high and low. In most projects in terms of colors I shoot for a fairly neutral palette with varied, rich textures and spots of color.” When it comes to tile, especially for a backsplash, “I splurge on tiles from one or two Italian Tile companies, because of the extraordinary depth of their colors (and non-colors) and handmade character. “The back splash tile in a kitchen or any space is a focal point, I tend not to produce a border tile for it. Since I chose the tile for its form and pattern, I feel that leaving the edge raw celebrates the design aspect .In terms of kitchen design, I always work with the highs and lows, given the open nature of the multi-function room, I tend to avoid upper cabinets and a full height refrigerator for a more integrated overall aesthetic. “For the kitchen splurges, I will go with fridge drawers and custom stainless steel panels to keep the kitchen quiet and monolithic. I may use other materials for the island, to surround and warm it up, quartz, granite and stone are the materials that work best with most tiles. As the designer, I tend to use a neutral palette to create a background that can accommodate a high/low design approach with any kitchen design. As the “The Designer, I always try to be the ” An Optimist at Home “.

As a New York City Designer, I am obsessed with the way good design can improve the quality of life. This weekend while traveling out east with my family…thinking about my very important “design decisions in a renovation of a late Victorian terraced house in Port Washington,New York.

In my former life as a jewelry designer in New York City, living in SOHO and Tribeca my designs reflected the city. Although, now loving be an east ender..I am currently a member of the AIA Architect and Designer Directory, Designer for Marble Palace Design Center in Port Washington, New York and AN Interior Designer for exclusive clients .. some of my best designs and inspirations still arrive from NYC.. creating atmospheres to provoke emotional responses.

My work now in 2013 as an interior designer is no different—but now more of my inspirations come from travels out east in the summer, and city weekends in the fall..Looking forward to my RUSTIC CHIC, CASUAL LUXURY renovations and remodel projects this season ahead..

Design Surfaces With New Tile Textures and Forms. Technology has taken our movies, TV shows and printing into three dimensions, and now it’s taking tile there. Tile not only has taken on textures like damask, exotic patterns and prints, stacked stone especially the 3D collection from Marble Palace Design Center in Port Washington,New York . My favorite place to design kitchens, bathrooms , fireplaces and any wall or floor installation project. One of the great resources for all your tiles and natural stones…Porcelain, Marble and travertine in their new looks, shapes and forms. Tile has also become an integral part of architecture, with sculptural tiles adding new dimensions to walls. Tiles bump, undulated, weave, wave, crimp, crumple, create rhythms and draw our hands, which cannot resist touching them to check the feeling and mood of the designer.. as a jewelry designer since 1999, when I find Ornamental tile pieces like these..they become jewelry for walls.

Here are some of the most interesting innovations I work with currently ; Patterns with large-scale shapes. Separate tiles work together here, meeting at the corners to create new shapes; it’s like the wall was a large crumpled-up piece of paper that’s been somewhat smoothed out.
•Sculptural patterns. These patterns on wall tiles play with light and shadow and give the whole wall an artistic quality as well as depth
•Tiles with different levels and textures. As a designer working with the Architecture I always approach the tile installation in a new way. “The ugly joint used to be a problem; now the ugly joint becomes more than the advantage. It becomes a reason to” Think of the flat area between the shiny squares here as expanded joints”.
•Subtle patterns. Subtler patterns work well in a more minimalist room, whether cream tiles (these are from Viva) cover an entire wall or … … just form an interesting border or stripe.

http://www.marblepalacedesign.com

•Small-scale 3-D tiles. Tiny tiles are in on the pattern game too; here the small tiles give the wall depth and interest in a mosaic pattern.
